Fred Kinmonth/Nick Burns’ Sydney GTS 43 Otonomos Mandrake III was second overall in the IRC 1 class at the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta last week, and after contesting three events this season take over top spot in the 2017/18 AsianYachting Grand Prix rankings from Nick Southward’s J-109 Whisky Jack. By winning all eight IRC four races at the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta and scoring a maximum 18 points, David Fuller and the chartered Beneteau 44.7 Fujin enter the AsianYachting Grand Prix Rankings in a creditable ninth place and as they expect to perform well at the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta next week, advancement in the rankings are likely.

Other improvements in the rankings following the recent Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta include last years runner up, Chris Mitchell and his Naut 40 Lady Bubbly who after their second event slot into fourth in the rankings, while victory in the Premier Cruising Class for Geoff Hill’s Smith 72 Antipodes elevates them into 10th place. Racing class victory for Sarab Singh’s Welbourn 52 Windsikher II is their first scoring event this season and earns 14 points, entering the rankings at 27th place, out of the 194 skippers, that have already scored this season.

Racing now concentrates on the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta (2nd – 9th December), Royal Langkawi International Regatta (8th – 13th January) and the Neptune Regatta (10th – 17th February), giving the early leaders on the Western Circuit – John Newnham’s Firefly 850 Twin Sharks, Ray Roberts TP52 Team Hollywood, Niels Degenkolw’s X3/4 Ton MK2 Phoenix, Alan Carwadine’s Stealth 11.8 Asia Catamarans Hurricane and Neil Ayre’s Pulse 600 Java Racing – big chances to improve their standings and take over the leader board.
