The 2012 Dominican Republic OptiWorlds Championship, held under the authority of the IODA (International Optimist Dinghy Association) and organised by the Asociación Dominicana de Optimist in conjunction with the Club Náutico Santo Domingo with the endorsement of the Federación Dominicana de Vela, is taking place from 15 to 26 July 2012 in the Dominican Republic.

The Team Racing Finals took place on Day 6 and saw the victory of Team Singapore for the second time in a row since they also won the 2011 OptiWorlds Team Racing Championship.

Although the favorites, the Americans proved to be at their best in the run-up to the Grand Final. Other favourites included Peru and Netherlands. The Singaporeans, however, had previously dominated the Peruvians with two wins and one loss at the 2011 OptiWorlds in New Zealand.

On the final day of the 2012 Team Championships, Team Singapore, who managed to beat the Netherlands in the quarter finals, dominated in both races to become the 2012 World Champion.

Team Singapore started the day with one victory over the Germans. So did Team New Zealand and Thailand.

At the same time, the Dutch and the Swedish, as well as the Americans, won their rivals and qualified for the next round.

The Americans kept on beating their rivals one-by-one and qualified for the Grand Finals.

To qualify, Singapore had to win over Chile and the Netherlands. Both teams were well trained and the Singaporeans didn’t have an easy task. However, at the end, they managed to beat them both and made it to the finals.

Team Singapore finished in the top 3 places in both races to become the 2012 Team Optimist World Champions.
