Asia Superyacht Rendezvous promises stunning gathering of superyachts for 2016

For the past decade-and-a-half, the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous has welcomed some of the world’s finest superyachts and another outstanding, custom-designed gathering can be expected this December for superyacht owners and captains attending the 2016 event.

“The elite gathering, held December 16-18 every year, consistently attracts superior sail and power vessels from among the world’s stunning superyachts,” comments long time organizers, Gordon Fernandes and Captain (Champagne) Charlie Dwyer. “Now for the first time the two days of Superyacht Racing will culminate in an ‘Asia Superyacht Rendezvous Cup’ award.”

“In addition, for the first time our guests may choose to race or simply enjoy the pleasure of being out on the water during the races, cheering on their favorites,” adds Gordon.

The two day sailing competition makes up part of the exclusive Asia Superyacht Rendezvous.

Commenting on his experience, a registrant attending last year’s event said, “You can forget the Med and the Caribbean. As a relatively new owner of a superyacht, I am keen to learn more about cruising in the region, even on to Myanmar, and Asia Superyacht Rendezvous provides a unique opportunity at which to do so, while learning from other owners’ experiences.”

Johnny Warrillow, owner of the superyacht, Maverick II, explained, “We attended because it is a very friendly gathering in Phuket of yacht owners, a region that has an exciting future as a base in Asia. And, it is fun to be part of it from the start. The relaxed and informal ‘opening party’ aboard a superyacht sets the tone for the rest of the event, where friendships are forged over shared experiences.”

This year VIP guests will celebrate the opening night cocktail party aboard the unique phinisi-style sailing superyacht, Dunia Baru. The following days and evenings offer many opportunities for relaxed socializing amidst the two days of highly competitive but friendly sailing races and pleasure cruising. A highlight after the first race on day two is the festive “Benetti Challenge”, with yacht teams constructing and racing a small sail boat blown by a team member down a 10’ long water trough, as friends wildly cheer on their favorites!
