The Top of the Gulf Regatta is Asia’s largest multi-class regatta. Bringing together Optimists, dinghies, beach catamarans, multihulls and keelboats from around Asia and beyond, for four days of international competition in the Gulf of Thailand.
Now in it’s eighth year, the 2012 event threatened to break all records, welcoming over 200 watercraft and 600 plus participants.
The 12 classes faced a mix of conditions from wet and wild on day one to idyllic tropical sailing over the four-day competition.
Hosted by Ocean Marina Yacht Club, the Regatta incorporates the Coronation Cup (Platu) and the Thailand Optimist Nationals, which this year attracted over 100 junior sailors from around Asia.
New to the Regatta this year was the introduction of the Neil Pryde Racing Series. A first time the tour has stopped in Thailand, this event was the opening event on the nine-stop global tour and proved to be exciting for the 20 plus participants from 4 countries.
Racing the one-design RS:One boards, the two-days of racing took place in the marina basin and proved very popular with spectators lining the marina.
A lavish Gala Dinner hosted by Ocean Marina Yacht Club brought to a close a highly successful eighth edition of the Top of the Gulf Regatta.
