China Coast Regatta – October 12 to 14, 2018 – Hong Kong

The China Coast Race Week, taking place October 12 to 14, comprises the China Coast Regatta and the Hong Kong to Hainan Race.

Organized by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, the China Coast Regatta offers three days of Big Boat racing in Hong Kong.

A combination of windward/ leewards and inshore races are set South of Hong Kong.

The average 15 to 20 knots North Easterly wind usually provide challenging conditions for the five IRC divisions.

Background
The China Coast Regatta was awarded Asian Regatta of the year 2011.

This intense and very demanding regatta is combined with plenty of on–shore social events based at Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s Kellett Island and Middle Island facilities.

In 2011, due to the extreme sea conditions, the entries were restricted to boats over 9m in length, which excludes the one-design Impala and J/80 fleets which traditionally formed IRC 3.

For the AsianYachting Grand Prix Championship participants, the China Coast Regatta serves as the springboard to the season’s Asian Circuit.

In the past years, the ’40 footer’ division became the largest and most competitive in Asia.

The China Coast Regatta also includes Cruising, Premier Cruising and HKPN classes. The competitors in these classes compete over fewer races, with emphasis on island and geometric courses.
