In this episode of Go Yachting we are in Phuket, Thailand, at the 25th Anniversary Phuket King’s Cup Regatta. Boats from around Asia and beyond headed to Phuket to take part in what has become the ‘one-to-win’ in Asia – the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta. 1000 plus sailors of 33 nationalities took part in the 2011 Regatta in 12 Classes across a diverse fleet of boats – 91 keelboats and multihulls, 38 dinghies and 19 Kiteboards. Kiteboards were introduced for the first time – the first time a multi-class regatta of this nature globally has incorporated a Kiteboard Class.
The week was considered by many to be one of the best in the Regatta’s 25-year history. The winds built throughout to provide some exciting on-the-water action, culminating on the last day with winds gusting to 25 knots. Winners were presented at the Royal Awards Ceremony, presided over by His Majesty the King’s Personal Representative. With the prize-giving over, sailors and friends swapped stories and partied the night away poolside at the Kata Beach Resort & Spa. Go Yachting brings you all the action.

The NeilPryde Racing Series – a global wind surfing series is heading to Thailand in 2012, and is joining up with what has become Asia’s largest multi-class Regatta by boat numbers, the Top of the Gulf Regatta. The NeilPryde Racing Series will run in conjunction with the Regatta off Ocean Marina Yacht Club in the Gulf of Thailand. The NeilPryde Racing Series is coming to Thailand for the very first time.
Asia Superyacht Rendezvous – Taking place for the 11th time, the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous is a unique event in the global Superyacht Calendar. Hosted by The Surin Phuket resort, the Rendezvous is a get together of superyachts in the region – both sail and power. Held over three days, the on-water-action was complemented by shoreside parties and activities such as the ‘Feadship Challenge’ – where crews build their own miniature yachts and have to blow them along a course – and a first for this year, the ‘Rendezvous Booty’, a treasure hunt involving crew and guests.
The highlight of the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous, Asia’s only superyacht event, was the closing night Gala Dinner, sponsored by Boat International, where guests enjoyed Asian hospitality and fine wines, and danced into the early hours.
