The Royal Langkawi International Regatta started with a sunny day and 5-6 knots of wind around 10am. All classes started racing at Kuah Harbour between 10.25am and 10.45am with the wind picking up to 8 knots gusting 12 making the sailing conditions fairly good on the second morning.

THA72 keeps its top spot in the racing class, so does Kazuki Kihara’s Char Chan in the IRC1 class.

The favourable wind conditions allowed a second race in Kuah Harbour for all classes immediately, with the racing class starting at 11:55am and the Multihulls starting last at 13:20.

The overall results for the second day confirm THA72, defending champion in the racing class, as the winner ahead of Uranus skippered by Salleh Ahmad. Duncan Hine’s Alive came third with Zuhal skippered by Hairolnizam Hat came last in its class.

Vincent Chan’s Mata Hari won today’s second race in the IRC1 class and now leads the class after 3 races followed by Char Chan and Meraki. A tough competition is expected between the two favourites, Mata Hari and Char Chan in the IRC1 class.

Last year’s winner Phoenix, skippered by Niels Degenkolw, takes honours in the IRC2 class, so does Robert van Paridon’s Tantrum Too in the Multihull class.

Southern Breeze 3 is retaining the lead in the Club Class ahead of Lady Bubbly and Iseulta after Sophia, skippered by Philip Auger, retired.

Chantique, skippered by A’dale Adham Ayahudin, came top today in the Rover Class taking over from Woodrow Jack Christensen’s Linda.

Wind conditions are expected to improve, with round the island race.

The Royal Langkawi 16th International Regatta is approved by the World Sailing (formerly known as ISAF) and Malaysian Sailing Association (MSA).
