The 36-strong fleet at the 2012 Royal Langkawi International Regatta headed out to open water today for some coastal racing and windward-leewards.
Leading IRC 1 Class after the first day, Mata Hari was up against a re-invigorated fleet today with Chinese entry Jing Jing showing her true colours on the windward-leeward courses.
Mata Hari lead Jing Jing and Katsu off the line in Race One only to be beaten by Jing Jing in races One and Two.
Katsu showed improvement with line honours in the first race, and a second and third on corrected time in races One and Two. While Mata Hari managed third and second respectively.
In IRC Racing Class Team HiFi returned to form taking a first in the second race of the day, and a second in the first. Hooligan scored a first and second to stay top of the series and stretch out a good lead.
The Malaysian Navy entries, Uranus and Utarid had mixed results today with a fifth and fourth, and third and fifth respectively.
The IRC 2 Class were sent on single longer Coastal Course today. The distance played into the hands of Phoenix who put in a strong performance to take the class win today from Nijinsky in second.
The one-design Sport Boat Class continued their tight battle with the two leaders, Singapore Management University and Malaysian Armed Forces, swapping first and seconds in the Race One and Race Two today, despite Team SMU being OCS in Race One.
Both teams are tied on points going into tomorrow’s racing.
Competition was high and the battle was no less intense amongst the rest of the Platu fleet as places were traded throughout.
The Multihull Class were sent on a longer course today, Course 7. As the fleet stretched their legs, Fantasia headed over the horizon to win by over one hour on corrected time, with Andaman Cabriolet Nina in second.
The Club Class and Ocean Rover Class raced a single race today, on the longer Course 7. The winds weakened towards the end and the PRO shortened the course for the Club Class.
On corrected time, Free Wind won in the Club Class and My Toy took another win in the Ocean Rover Class.
Prize-presentations take place tonight at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club.
The Langkawi ‘Round-the-Island’ Race, is scheduled for all classes tomorrow.
